The Rezaei Howzkhaneh is located within the historic Rezaei House (Saracheh Rezaei, National Heritage Registration No. 32996). This ingeniously designed underground space is an outstanding example of natural cooling technology in desert architecture.
At the center of the Howzkhaneh is a small pool supplied by the Riab Qanat. Around the pool, plastered platforms provided spaces for sitting and relaxation. A tall windcatcher above the structure directs breezes into the Howzkhaneh, while the evaporation of water from the pool naturally cools the air. Small arched openings allow soft daylight to enter without admitting the heat of the sun.
The Howzkhaneh dates back to the late Qajar period and remained in use by the Rezaei family until a few decades ago. Today, following partial restoration, it demonstrates to visitors how earlier generations achieved comfort in their homes without relying on fossil fuels.
